US regulators target dark pools and trading algos

US regulators have put dark pools and automated trading systems firmly in their sights, to address financial stability and fairness concerns.

Stirred by publication of Michael Lewis’ book Flash Boys and a string of scandals involving dark pools and high-frequency trading (HFT), the debate on whether the US financial market structure allows some players to game the markets remains fierce, and fiercely complicated.
