Affiliates Take Pride in Giving
The grassroots nature of STA’s Affiliate organization is more than political activism. It is also about the charitable work each affiliate does in the local community. Many of these unselfish efforts go unrecognized. Please take a moment to review the charitable work done by the affiliate organizations over the past years and where possible, assist them as they assist others.
Here are a few featured stories of how STA Members make a difference every day:
Security Traders Association of Chicago
STAC has always taken our commitment to community service very seriously and done whatever possible to make it a major part of our mission. We were very proud and honored to be recognized for our efforts in 2014, by receiving the STA Big Heart award. In 2015, the Board of Directors continued to focus on both charitable giving and community service. This year, our focus on service and giving continued as we tried to create an environment fostering a sense of service not only within our Board, but also through our members at large and our member firms willing to take charge on the service front. Even our recruitment of new members has tried to spotlight the various ways in which STAC creates opportunities for service. We are happy to have the opportunity to make financial contributions to organizations in need, but we are fiercely proud of our ability and willingness of our board and our members to give of their time and passion to help our local community.
Our continued commitment to service, maintained via our partnership with Ronald McDonald House (RMH) which provides the STAC Board with a meeting space and regular volunteer opportunities in coordination with a charitable gift made by our organization. One of those highlights has been the opportunity to cook meals for RMH families in residence through the “Meals from the Heart” program. Since last year, STAC has been able to cook on three separate occasions, which allowed our board and members to graciously give over 128 combined hours to families in need. The STAC board also had opportunity to donate meals by ordering food deliveries on two separate occasions on very short notice when RMH suffered last minute cancellations by other organizations.
In all of these cases, STAC has covered all costs involved in these endeavors.
STAC has also partnered with The Night Ministry to feed homeless children and wayward teens in desperate need of food, health care, shelter, and guidance. Our Board has given over 70 hours of time feeding and helping care for the kids at “The Crib” as their shelter is known. We have also facilitated “in kind donations” of kitchen and home entertainment equipment by some of our member firms. The chair of our philanthropy committee is currently putting together an opportunity to help The Night Ministry with improve their dining program, and also create a STAC board and member event to improve their facilities through a painting initiative.
STAC Women’s Collective in conjunction with WILD participated in STA’s multi city campaign’s clothing drive, Dress For Success by helping to collect acceptable women’s office-appropriate, professional attire at four separate collection locations throughout Chicago.
Finally, our STAC FUND Scholarship program continued to grow with over 21 applications for 5 scholarships worth $3000.00 each, totaling $15,000.00 given to deserving students in 2016. Those students will be honored at our annual Mid-Winter Meeting and Conference being held in January 2017. We are proud of our continued outreach to the student community via these scholarship opportunities, as well as job placement and networking opportunities through our Next Generation Outreach special interest group.
Thank you for your consideration. We are proud to have the opportunity to serve our community.
Dallas Security Traders Association
The Dallas Security Traders Association was extremely active in 2016 with multiple charities.
The DSTA provided and served dinner to the patients at the Ronald McDonald House. We once again raised money for Kenna’s Kids, an organization in North Texas that reaches out to individual families with children experiencing life’s medical challenges at a young age. The DSTA held a Toys for Tots Drive, supported the The Samaritan Inn, and were a part of The Birthday Party Project! The Dallas Security Traders Association is continuing to focus on charities that can really make a difference in and around the DFW area.
Here is a list of all the charities we contributed to in 2016:
• The Birthday Party Project
• Kenna’s Kids
• Ronald McDonald House
• The Samaritan Inn
• St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
• Toys For Tots
Security Traders Association of New York
STANY and the STANY Foundation have a long and wonderful history of supporting charities most loved by the Wall Street community.
We are very proud of our multiple year commitments to support the St. Jude’s Research Hospital – and it amazing work curing children with cancer and advancing needed research to end childhood cancers along with our focused commitment to the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s Wings Over Wall Street project to fund groundbreaking research to find a cure for ALS. Both charities are graciously supported financially and through volunteer efforts of our members; and STANY is proud to be their partner.
Moreover, each year STANY’s President selects a charity to be a new focus of our fund raising efforts. In 2016, Chuck Lugay selected the Madison Square Boys & Girls Club a program that provides positive youth development and empowerment through a clubhouse environment.
At STANY, we embraced the mission of the Madison Square Boys & Girls Club as they literally save and positively enhance the lives of New York City boys and girls who economically or socially are most in need of their services. STANY not only held a raffle to support the Club, but we also dedicated 100% of our charity casino profits to benefit Madison Square.
Seattle Security Traders Association
Seattle carefully considers its charity gifts on an annual basis. Dress for Success is a new charity for Seattle in 2016, but we have made annual contributions to the following charities for a number of years. Several board members also participate in the Invest In Youth golf tournament.
Security Traders Association of St. Louis
One of the main tenants of the Security Traders Association of St. Louis’ mission is to support our local community through education and charity.
